Inquiring Minds

A new language education framework, based on Big Questions, world exploration, Science and Art. The principles of Inquiring Minds are related to Cognitive Development and Montessori approach. The program is for children 6-12 years old (goes up to B2 level).

Inquiring Minds works with a suggested booklist that Glossomatheia is using but can be adopted to the school's chosen booklist.

The idea is that

1) learners are given a choice of 2-3 big questions for each 'exploration'.

2) they then move around the classroom to choose resources to answer this big question (through their coursebook, literature, science, materials and experiments)

3) the teacher provides learners with language for them to explore the question

4) learners practice the language through exploring their question

5) learners are assessed through formative and summative assessment tools on their question exploration (language and content)

6) learners move on to the next question (unit of exploration)

One of the main features of Inquiring Minds is that learners have a choice which question (Unit) goes next. This makes the syllabus more thematic and content-based, while the coursebook becomes a flexible, interactive tool that complements the lesson, instead of dictating it. Inquiring Minds also shifts the focus from a grammar-based syllabus to a theme-based one.

The end of year event for Inquiring Minds is a Science Fair and the Children Summit, where young learners will be presenting their work, findings and projects.
