The imagination of our translators knows no boundaries and rules. With their light hand, Rob Cohen's brand-new thriller "The Neighbor" is released on Russian screens under the name "Fan". The film is about how a divorced teacher, Claire, tries to get her life back on track, but she suddenly gets "lucky" with a new neighbor. Noah, a very attractive young man, settled next to her nest. He's good-looking, his hands are growing out of nowhere, and on top of that, Claire's son finds a friend in the guy. When it turns out that Noah loves to read, the literature teacher simply cannot resist. He showered her with compliments and reminded her that she was still a beautiful and desirable young woman. In its development, the plot is terribly banal — the viewer has seen such a development of events on the screen many times. As an example, "Obsession" (2009), "Paranoia" (2007) and "Roommate" (2011). Everything is predictable: Noah quickly turns from a sweetheart of a boyfriend into an obsessive monster who desperately and by any means intends to enter Claire's life tightly. There is a plus in all this sadness — the cast is happy. Ryan Guzman, who shows off all sorts of attractive parts of his pumped-up body, also played a psychopath perfectly. Perhaps the actor still has to grow up to the highest score, but the fact that his pretty face is suitable not only for teenage melodramas ("Step Forward 4", "Step Forward: all or nothing") He definitely proved it. Guzman's character's mood swings are sudden and frightening, and the look itself is really insane. Old Lady J.Lo (ah, it's already forty-something!) she fit perfectly into the image of a drooping divorcee. It's not the first time the actress has fought for her life on the screen, here you can recall how she hit back at her crazy husband in "I've Had Enough" (2002). Claire fearlessly enters the house and finds evidence of a "cannon" on his face. This is how a passionate night turns into a fatal mistake, threatening her career and life. After discovering everything secret and unflattering, the filmmakers finally wash their hands of it. Overall, the film is not so bad, although there are some blunders and predictability is bursting from all the cracks. It wouldn't hurt to add some tension to the tape.
